Project Background

Problem

There were two major issues when sat down to discuss the redesign and development of the MTC public website. The big issue on the table was giving the company a positive web presence to help combat a wave of negative news. We also wanted to give MTC a place to house a repository of positive stories to share with customers and state/federal elected officials.

Solution

Because the main objective of this site redesign was to increase the positive stories available to the public and customers, we decided rather quickly that WordPress would be the best option for a CMS. The site would end up functioning similar to a blog/news site where content is added weekly by content managers, we needed a system that would allow for multiple users, easy content creation, and good content organization. Because this site was developed with the help of Objective Inc., I initially took a project management role, essentially helping decide on the tech stack, building out site maps, wireframes, imagery, and some design elements.

Once the designs were done, Objective Inc. handled the heavy lifting on the development side and I helped fix bugs and trouble shoot issues with the careers page and the interface between MTC's career site and the Jobvite API. Once the site was complete, we put a little time in to SEO optimization and options for sharing the posted content.

The next phase was training several content managers on the CMS and plugins we had incorporated to build custom pages and posts. I took on the role of Digital Media Manager for the company and trained new users and kept the site running, fixing any bugs or attending to any requests that came in after Objective Inc. had completed their portion of the project.
